Judean Lowlands Tour
ELAH VALLEY AND LANDS OF THE BIBLE
The Judean Lowlands stretch from the shore to the Judean Mountains. The region is brimming with history from all periods – it is the land of the Bible, where David killed Goliath, where the Jews organized and resisted Roman aggression during the Bar Kochva Revolt, and endless stories and sites that expose the rich history of the land. We will explore caves, tunnels and ancient settlements; visit wineries and see how agriculture has developed from ancient to modern times.
A visit to the region will provide an unforgettable glimpse into the rich and turbulent history of the land.
Some of the sites that can be visited:
-
Tel Adullam will give a picturesque view on the mountains of Jerusalem, the patrol line and the cooperative agriculture vs the traditional one.
-
A visit to Bell caves will give us an idea of the land of thousand caves.
-
Khirbet Qeiyafa - the ruins of an ancient Sha'araim - in the Ellah Valley, located in a key strategic location in the biblical Kingdom of Judah, on the main road from ancient Philistia to Jerusalem and Hebron.
-
Tel Lakhish is the site of the ancient city of Lakhish, which in ancient Judah was second in importance only to Jerusalem.
-
The ruins of Maresha-Beit Guvrin uncover many layers of history, from its days as a city of Judah during the First Temple period, and through centuries to its decline during the Maccabean Revolt.
